Why do so many people fail in network marketing? Here is some of the common mistakes people we make.
1. One Strike Out
So you joined a network marketing business. You are excited, you tell your best friend about it, try to recruit them and they brutally reject you. Oh no, this doesn’t work! Listen, the truth is, more people will say No to you than Yes. A lot of the times, people you want the most never join your business. Many people have strong distaste for network marketing that has nothing to do with you, and you can’t let them affect you.
2. Thinking “Internet Marketing”
You think you’ll go internet marketing. You post up your link on your social media profiles, and send out emails to your friends. What, nothing happened? Ok.. first, these are not internet marketing. Second, if people click on your link, and this is a big IF, they won’t automatically join your business. This is not “build it and they shall come” or “post it and they shall join”. Network marketing is a contact sport. You are in a business of personally contacting people. You can’t expect for things to come to you, you need to go out and get them. You can generate leads online, but you still need to talk to them, follow up, then follow up some more.
3. Not Being Coachable
Are you learning from your leaders and the experts in the industry? Are you following what they teach, or are you unwilling to because it scares you? If you want to be successful, do what successful people are doing. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Take advantage of all training that is available to you, and learn everything you can. Then go out and do it.
4. Not Staying at It
You did some of number 1 and 2, and nothing happened. You decide it doesn’t work. The good news about network marketing is that it’s easy to start, but don’t let it fool you. The bad news is that it’s just as easy to do nothing or to quit. What did you do that would produce results, and for how long? It takes more than just a couple of months to build a successful business. You need to work at it, and stay consistent.
5. Get Distracted by Every Shiny New Thing
There’s a new program coming out seemingly every week. If you are the type of person who easily gets distracted by the latest coolest deal, chances are that’s how you joined your current opportunity. Stop. Bouncing around companies, and getting involved in so many programs at the same time keeps you getting further away from where you need to be. Choose the right opportunity, focus, and commit to it on a long run.
6. Treating It Like a Hobby
“Side business” may have sounded like a cool idea. The question is this a business or a hobby to you? If you want serious results, get serious about it. If you are only going to give it a half-hearted efforts, don’t.
7. Doing It Alone
In network marketing, you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself. You can’t do it alone. Be smart, and use your support to your advantage. Use 3-way calling with your upline. If your sponsor is unable to help you, keep going up in your organization until you find help. This is a team work.
8. Blaming It on Everything Other Than Yourself
If you are in a legitimate opportunity and there are people who are making the kind of money you’d like to make, the only thing that’s stopping you from achieving it is you. Stop blaming it on your company, your upline, your product, or anything else other than yourself. You can’t expect any miracles without you making them happen.
9. Not Believing in Yourself
This is the deepest issue of all: You. Network marketing does not require a lot of high skills. Everything you need in this business is learnable. It’s quite simple, but you need to first believe in yourself because it’s not going to be easy. How big is your desire? Is it big enough to go out of your comfort zone? Start by taking baby steps, and keep stretching yourself. Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Of course, there are times when you want to evaluate what you are involved in. Sometimes the companies go to the direction you don’t agree with, or the management changes things. Your upline may not be able to provide the support you need. If you honestly don’t resonate with the opportunity or the team you are in, it may be time to consider other options.
